2004 WR250F

2005 YZ250F

The Yamaha YZ and WR 250F were introduced in 2001. For the first time a 250cc four stroke was competitive in the 125 two stroke class, as per AMA rules. For some reason, the WR250F had some extreme changes made to it in the US market. As delivered from the dealer, the WR250F is a lazy and sluggish bike! Some dealers will do some minor modifications but few will have any idea what to do to bring it up to YZ250F performance. Often the responses people have gotten from the shops are comical! Luckily, there is little cost associated with bringing the WRF up to YZF specs. The YZF, in stock form, also has some drawbacks or limitations that are generally easily corrected. Others are interested in making the YZF more trail friendly. The information in the following pages is provided to allow you to get the most out of your Yamaha baby thumper. The 2001 and 2002 model bikes were very similar. however, in 2003 Yamaha made significant upgrades to both bikes.

 Navigation Tips

All sections of the FAQ are accessible from the menu at the top of the page but not all individual pages are accessible through a single menu selection. Some pages are only accessible through a menu link to an index page or a SiteMap reference. For a comprehensive table of contents please refer to the sitemap.

All links within the text of the FAQ are in light blue and will turn red and be underlined when the cursor is over them. The majority of the images on this site are provided in a low resolution format. However, in most cases a larger image can be viewed in a separate window by simply clicking on the image.

Recently added topics are included in the "What's New" section below while active topics can be found in the "What's Hot" section below.

Note: The links to ThumperTalk threads may not always work properly. This is because anytime there is an upgrade to the servers or software at ThumperTalk, the links to the archived threads change. I try to keep up with them as best a can but it is a daunting task. However, the ThumperTalk links provided in this FAQ use the exact original title of the thread (except for punctuation in some special cases). As such you can copy the text and paste it into the ThumperTalk search engine to find the thread if the link is broken.

Printing has now been simplified on most pages. Simply click print or use the menu and a printer friendly version will automatically be printed. On pages that do not yet have that functionality, you need to print in landscape mode.

If you have comments, corrections, or additions you would like to see made to this FAQ send us some feedback.
